What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember things between visits — for example, that you've already dismissed a banner, or that you came in from a particular page. We use cookies set by us ("first-party" cookies) and cookies set by external services we rely on ("third-party" cookies). Some cookies last only for the current browsing session; others persist for longer.

Categories of cookies in use

Strictly necessary

These cookies are required for the site to load and function. They do not track you across other sites and cannot be turned off through opt-out tools.

Analytics

Set by Google Analytics. These help us understand which pages and printables are useful, in aggregate. They do not identify you personally to us.

Advertising

Set by Google AdSense and other advertising partners. These are used to serve relevant adverts, frequency-cap how often you see the same advert, and measure performance.

Functional

Set by Google Fonts to deliver typography. These do not track behaviour but do involve a request to Google's servers when a page loads.

Google's advertising cookies

Colour Activities is supported by advertising. Google, including via Google AdSense, may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Serve adverts based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
  • Measure how adverts perform and prevent the same advert being shown too often.
  • Detect and prevent fraudulent advert clicks.

For Google's full advertising cookie list and explanations, see policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

How to opt out or manage cookies

You have several options:

  • Manage personalised adverts from Google. Visit Google Ads Settings to turn off personalised advertising across your Google account.
  • Opt out of many ad-network cookies (US/global). Use aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • Opt out of personalised advertising in Europe. Use youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Browser controls. All major browsers let you block or delete cookies via their settings. You can also use private/incognito browsing.
  • Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, third-party services that honour it will adjust accordingly.

Blocking cookies will not break the site's core content, but it may affect features that depend on third-party services (for example, embedded fonts) and may reduce the accuracy of the analytics we use to improve the site.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when we add or remove a cookie category. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent material change.
